Week 7

Glorbus: Orchard of Mines

Don't taint this ground with the color of the past
Are the sounds in bloom with you?
'Cause you seem like an orchard of mines
Just take one step at a time

And you seem to break like time
So fragile on the inside, you climb these grapevines
Would you look now unto the pit of me on the ground
And you wander through these to climb these grapevines...

I'll say it to be proud; won't have my life turn upside down
Says the man with some, with some gold forged plan
Of life so incomplete, like weights strapped around my feet
Tread careful one step at a time

And you seem to break like time
So fragile on the inside, you climb these grapevines
Would you look now unto the pit of me on the ground
And you wander through these to climb these grapevines

To know, to feel, to play me once again
Do you denote from what we feel
Do you not know, I see you play the game
Do you denote...

La flama riposa
La ombra dispare
La noce immortale
La voce murmure

To know, to feel, to play me once again
Do you denote
Do you not know, I see you play the game
Denote

I think the ability to care for others and want to help them makes a strong hero.

Having compassion for others and seeing the good in everyone and putting the needs of the people above their own.

Determination, selflessness, and knowing when you're starting to lose yourself. Basically Ellie :D

Attitude. It's all about how they stand up for themselves!

I think the ability to put everyone else's well being and happiness above yours, to be selfless, is key to being a strong hero/heroine. Also, to triumph over evil, because if evil won, that wouldn't be good. And being a bada** doesn't hurt either. ;)

I think a great hero/heroine has to be flawed in some way, but have the ability to work through those flaws to be extraordinary. Their flaws aren't a reason for them to mope; instead, they overcome and push themselves and the people around them to be stronger and better.

I think a great heroine/hero needs to be willing to admit that they aren't perfect. That their flaws are part of their person and part of their drive and personality to save the world against the bad guys out there.

And having supportive side characters is a plus ;]

More than anything, I like to see someone who fights for what they believe in. I think that's most important.

I think courage and caring for others makes a great hero/heroine

I love flawed heros, too. The more flaws the better - as long as they push to overcome. For me, that makes a hero relatable and likable. Also, a better role model. When a hero is perfect, it's hard to imagine that you could be that person, do great things, stand up to people and overcome your obstacles - particularly for young people. But when they make mistakes and are still heroic - that's someone to emulate.

Selflessness and having the courage to do what needs to be done.

Someone who is not just physically strong, but mentally strong, if that makes sense. A strong heroine is someone who is smart, thinks things through, and does what's right!

Brittany said...

Someone who, even though they're afraid, yet still has the courage to do what they think is right.

I think that someone who's a hero # has the heart to be one. So... you're caring, kind, and compassionate, but you have that hard edge to your nature that makes you that strong person. Um... and you have to make the best decisons... even though you really want to react with your heart, you have to see what benifits others the most. That makes a good hero.

What makes a heroine or hero?: One who is most likely not to be considered a hero with their "faults" which are actually what mold and make them that special and rare. They don't wield a cape and super hero outfit but settle for a hoodie, jeans, and some comfortable, worn out sneakers. They do not hesitate to put themselves in front of any danger. A humbling factor is that they also carry fears themselves. And they go through a most epic battle: accepting who they are and if to deny their gift or use it for others and not for their own selfish desires.

Shayenne said...

The character has to have self-confidence and they should be able to face all obstacles without any fear.

Ellen said...

I think the ability to make you own decisions and to be independent is more important than physically strength. It doesn't mean that the hero(ine) needs to care for no one but their selves. It means that they are able to make decisions based on their own needs, wants, obligations, not because they were pressured to.

I. AM. SO. EXCITED!!!!!!! Shadows in the Silence comes out the day after my birthday and I will DEFINITELY be going to buy this.

And to me, a strong heroine/hero is one that we can relate with. This person is not too perfect and has some flaws of his/hers. This person also needs to fight for what they believe in and, as cheezy as this sounds, they need to be a leader, not a follower. They need to stick to their beliefs no matter how tough the obstacles may be, and they need to see the best in everyone, but not so much as that people walk all over them.

Miecah said...

I think you have to be determined and willing to fight for what's right. Nobody can be perfect, so a strong heroine/hero has to have their flaws, but a way to work around them. They shouldn't be overpowering, but not let other people talk over them

Courtney Allison Moulton said...

Couldn't agree with you guys more! I especially believe that a hero is strong and does what it right, even if they are afraid. Nobody's fearless.

Orchid said...

One who can stand on their own, fight for what the believe in, and one who can swallow their pride and seek help when they need it. =)

Casey Jenkins said...

The ability to actually want to save the world or whatever the scenario is. Wanting it is the first step. Having compassion and not rushing are good qualities also.

Aydrea said...

I think they need to have faith in themselves & never give up. They also need to be compassionate & care for the well being of others.

Allie L said...

They are selfless and care about others. They are willing to sacrifice for the greater good.

Devourer of Books said...

I think the thing that makes an awesome heroine, is that the heroine isn't all that and a bag 'o chips. There always has to be something that isn't all perfect, or else the readers will never relate to the character, and probably won't read the next book in the series (if there is a series) Another thing is that you need a GREAT WRITER TO DO THIS!!!!!!! I love your books, Courtney...keep them coming!

Desperate Measures said...

I think to be a hero it is to be human; to make mistakes and care for people even if they may be the villain. To be a hero, I think personally, you don't always have to be selfless but you should care for every body and try your best to help them even sometimes, in some circumstances, it will not be enough. And that is alright, being the hero you will be faced with hard choices and sacrifices but it is what they do after these hard burdens, what determines what kind of hero they really are.

So yeah. basically that's what I think and I can't wait for your book! :D

Fear. Every hero/heroine is afraid. It's having the ability to take action regardless of that fear that makes for a strong protagonist. A hero/heroine without fear is not a human one then!

I believe that the ability to retain one's sense of self truly makes a person a hero or heroine. Someone who is a hero does not necessarily have to be an extraordinary person. A person who can overcome the difficult obstacles in life and persevere through the tough times is a hero to me.

Andrea C. Lira-Martinez said...

What do you think makes for a strong heroine or hero?

What makes a good heroine/hero is admitting of his/her flaws and fears; who's selfless, brave, compassionate, knows from right and wrong, cares for other people than themselves, a normal person (in their own way); a person who won't give up and never back down. Would give up his/her life to protect those around her.

What makes a good heroine/hero is someone who is loyal, selfless, brave, compassionate, caring and perseveres even when things get rough.

A hero is someone who is willing to persevere through all the difficult times, in my opinion.

I think what makes a great heroine/hero is that no matter there flaws or how many times they fail they still fight for what they believe in.They are willing to risk everything for the people they love even if it means risking there own hearts.

I think what makes a great heroine is someone who has the determination to put their own fears aside to save the lives of others. A heroine is someone who is kind but doesn't take crap from anyone.

Wren B. said...

A strong hero or heroine knows they have fear or that they are weak. But they face those fears and they try to make themselves strong.
